Massaging babies is one of those magical activities that has been passed on from generation to generation. And why not, considering the innumerable health benefits it has to offer. Massaging infants basically involves stroking your baby with soft and rhythmic strokes. Massaging is an extension of your touch which always puts a crying or irritable baby at ease.
Massage can soothe your baby and help her to sleep. Massage has many added benefits for your baby, including improving weight gain, aiding digestion, improving circulation, and easing teething pain. 
Massage is a great way for you and your partner to bond with your baby, and you may find it relaxing, too.


How many times should we massage baby?


Aim for a daily baby massage, but if that's not doable, try for three times a week. "A baby massage shouldn't last longer than 15 minutes or so, "Millhouse says. "Infants and children can't handle as much stimulation as adults and need shorter sessions.
Some parents give their baby massages daily, while other parents massage their little ones every other day. You can massage your baby during the morning to get the day going or at night before bedtime to help soothe your baby to sleep. Pay attention to your baby's cues to help determine the best massage routine.

Baby oil nd other mineral oils may be a good options to treat scalp problems in babies, like cradle cap. This scalp irritation is similar to dandruff. Massage baby oil into your baby's scalp to help loosen and remove dry, scaly skin. Similarly, baby oil may help prevent and get rid of dandruff in children and adults.


Should I massage my baby before or after bath?

Massage can be soothing for babies. Make sure the room is warm , your baby is quiet, well -rested nd alert, and you are relaxed. Try massage after a nap, when your baby is being changed or in the cot, or after a bath. You can do massage for 10-20 minutes.

If you massage your baby directly before a bath be careful to wipe the oil off with a towel before putting them in the water, or you could have a slippery little seal on your hands which could potentially be quiet dangerous. If you wait an hour or so the oil should have soaked in properly and it won't be an issue.

An afternoon massage is a great way to relax together, especially if your baby gets fussy towards the end of the day, and can even help to reduce that early evening  'witching hour' as you have had some calm connection time together.
Your baby may get excited in the water and enjoy kicking about, but not many of them enjoy getting out and getting dressed! Babies may find it calming to have a massage as part of the transition  from bath to bedtime. It's really important that the room is warm, after a bath their body can quickly cool, so ensure you have a very warm cozy room ready for a massage.

Which oil is best for baby massage?

The best oils to use during a baby massage- in no particular order-include:-

Sesame oil:- Sesame oil is light, and keeps your baby comfortable. This is the best baby massage oil that helps your little one develop strong bones.

Coconut oil:- Rich in essential fatty acids and proteins, coconut oil nourishes and gently moisturizes skin. Your baby's skin is more delicate because it's brand new, thinner, more sensitive and produces fewer moisturize the top most layer of skin.

Olive oil:- Its rich in vitamin E, antioxidants, and things like squalene and oleocanthal, which may help repair skin damage. Olive oil is also not toxic for unlikely to cause an allergic reaction, which makes it a good choice for your baby's delicate skin.

Almond oil:- Almond oil is rich in vitamin E that aids in improving  the strength and thickness of the baby's skin.

Jojoba oil:- This cold-pressed oil is effective  for massaging babies. It is especially for babies with eczema. It's regular use helps in skin healing.

Borage seed and Rosehip oil:- Rich in fatty acids, these oils promote healing and soothing of your baby's skin. They are also safe for use in babies suffering from eczema.

When to stop baby massage?

Use a soothing touch. Stop the massage if your baby seems uncomfortable. Avoid massage if you are very tense, or if your baby is upset. Make sure your fingernails are short.

Many families continue giving massages, though less frequently, until their child is five years or six years of age. There is no age limit to giving a massage or stopping them. You can continue giving massages to your baby for as long as you wish.
