Cough and Cold

A cough can be an involuntary or voluntary act to clear the throat. Children often cough when they have a cold because of mucus trickling down the back of the throat. If your child is feeding, drinking, eating and breathing normally and there's no wheezing, a cough is not usually anything to worry about. 

Before we get to the natural remedies to cure, let us understand what causes it.
  • Cold or flu
  • Pneumonia
  • Acute bronchitis
  • Asthma
  • Viral Infection

When to be worried about your child:

  • Cough with fever lasting more than five days. 
  • (Cough k sath bukhar 5 din se jada ho.)
  • A cough lasting for eight weeks. 
  • (Cough 8 weeks se jada ho.)
  • A cough getting worse by the third week. 
  • (Cough jada badh jaye.)
  • Associated difficulty in breathing labored breathing.
  • (Cough hone pr saas lene me dikat aane lage.)
How long do baby colds last?

Symptoms for a cold will typically last 7 to 10 days in infants and children. Common cold symptoms to watch out for in your baby include stuffy or runny nose, cough.
(Chote baccho me cold k symptoms 7 to 10 days dekhe jaate pr har bacche alag hote or symptoms bhi, to aapko notice krte rahna hoga ki aapka baccha kaise react kr raha hai. Kisi bacche ki naak band means block ho jaati hai to kisi bacche ki naak bahane lagti hai means runny nose.)

How to prevent cough?
Along with understanding ways to treat cough, it is imperative to prevent the infection in the first place. A few tips to do so are as follows:
  • Maintain a safe distance if someone around you is sick or suffering from a cough.
  • Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Wash your hands  frequently, especially after coughing.

Home Remedies of Cough
(Khasi k liye Gharelu nukhse)
  • Drink warm fluids:- Age 3 months to 1 year. Give warm clear fluids (such as apple juice or lemonade). Dose 1-3 teaspoons (5-15ml) four times per day when coughing. 
  • Age 1 year and older we can use Honey half to 1 teaspoon (2 to 5 ml) as needed.
  • Turmeric mixed in warm milk is a popular and effective way to fight against  cold and cough. This is an age old therapy that effectively treats cough and cold. Adding turmeric in salt water is also beneficial.
  • Kadha (Tulsi, Dalchini, Laung, Kali Mirch or Adrak ka kadha) bana kr bhi baccho ko thori thori der me de sakte hai. 
  • Ajwain ka pani bhi chote baccho ko sardi-jukam se rahat deta hai. Ishke ek bare chamach (Spoon) ajwain ko 1 glass pani me achi tarah paka le. Jb Pani adha ho jaye to ishko thori thori der me 3-4 baar bacche ko pilaye.
  • Kali mirch powder ko bhi sahad k sath dena bahut labhkri hota hai. Ishke liye half spoon kali mirch powder ko sahad me mila kr din me 2 baar de sakte hai.
Summary:
If coughs or colds need treatment, home remedies may work better.
