What is Proverbs ?
"A short well known sentence or phrase that gives advice or says that
something is generally true in life" or "A brief popular saying that gives advice about how people should live or that expresses a belief that is generally thought to be true .
Or
"A proverb is a short, pithy saying that expresses a traditionally held truth or piece of advice, based on common sense or experience .
Why do we use Proverbs ?
"To teach and educate the audience."
The most important function of proverbs is to teach and educate the audience. They often contain expert advice, with a role for educating the readers on what they may face if they do something. Since proverbs are usually metaphorical and indirect, they allow writers to express their messages in a less harsh way.
Here are 30 some Proverbs:-
(i) A bad excuse is better than none
Definition:- Always give an excuse even if it's a poor one .
(ii) A bad penny always turns up
Definition:- An unwanted or disreputable person constantly comes back .
(iii) A bad tree does not yield good apples
Definition:- A bad parent does not raise good children .
(iv) A bad workman blames his tools
Definition:- Blaming the tools for bad workmanship is an excuse for lack of skill .
(v) A barking dog seldom bites
Definition:- Someone who constantly makes threats rarely carries them out .
(vi) A bird in hand is worth two in a bush
Definition:- It is better to keep what you have rather than to risk losing it by searching for something better .
(vii) A black plum is as sweet as a white
Definition:- People should not be judged by their appearance .
(viii) A book holds a house of gold
Definition:- There is a wealth of knowledge on books .
(ix) A broken friendships may be soldered but will never be as strong as before
Definition:- Friendships can be rebuilt after a dispute but will never be as strong as before .
(x) A burden of one's own choice is not felt
Definition:- Something difficult seems easier when it is done voluntarily .
(xi) A burnt child dreads the fire
Definition:- A bad experience will make people stay away from certain things .
(xii) A calm sea does not make a skilled sailor
Definition:- A person shows their competence or ability when difficulties arise .

Definition:- Cats can survive many accidents because they land on their feet without injury .

Definition:- Intellectual assets are more valuable than material ones .

Definition:- A good reputation is better than a good appearance .
(xxxiv) A growing youth has a wolf in his belly
Definition:- Young boys eat a lot/are often hungry .
(xxxv) A guilty conscience needs no accuser
Definition :- If you know that you have done something wrong, you don't need anyone to tell you that you are guilty .
